Jaguar Ceviche Spoon Bar (Welcome, Nunu!)

Straight from Philly, our friend (nicknamed Mimi Nunu) flew in for a quick weekend visit. More on Nunu (and her cooking style) later, as I will do a post on one of her recipes, Orzo with Hot Italian Sausage and Broccoli Rabe. Back to the weekend-- first stop, Jaguar Ceviche Spoon Bar in Coconut Grove!

Ceviche Spoon Sampler- chef's pick. The chef picked a great assortment of six spoons. We had six of the seven listed on the ceviche portion of the menu found here. I have to say they that the ones I sampled were wonderful- each spicy kick was different! It was either wasabi or some type of pepper or marinating juice. One other thing that I have to say is that most of these did contain cilantro, and I didn't hate it! I have come to the realization that some chefs know how to use cilantro in such a way that it isn't offensive. The shrimp tacos, pictured below, didn't contain cilantro, but the pineapple salsa on the side did, and it was quite tasty. The shrimp was cooked and spiced perfectly! The black beans and rice were fair, not the most flavorful item on the plate-and they contained a surprise guest- peas... which were okay with me, but didn't help improve the dish.

This was a great meal- it was my first meal at Jaguar, a restaurant I have been trying to get to for two years. It was also great fun to catch up with Nunu, who hasn't been to visit in a little over a year. A good time was had by all...I highly recommend the mojitos...and the eggs.
